USP 467 is a widely used method for the determination of residual solvents in pharmaceutical products using gas chromatography (GC) with a flame ionization detector (FID). Due to the prescribed GC method settings, USP 467 has a long run time per sample, which can slow the release of finished pharmaceutical products from manufacturing. For high-throughput labs running several samples per day, the long run time can lower the number of samples that can be analyzed daily.
This application note reports data obtained from the optimized method utilizing the column and instrument setup prescribed in the USP 467 method. The approach presented in this application note was performed with the PerkinElmer GC 2400™ System with the PerkinElmer HS 2400™ Headspace Sampler. Results show a 67% decrease in sample runtime, allowing for a 160% increase in sample throughput since the optimized method can complete a sample run in 27 minutes as compared to 70 minutes of the original method.
