Polymer-Blend Batch Consistency Achieved Through QA-Compliant TGA Characterization

Introduction

This application note provides methodologies and results on TGA analysis of a range of polymeric material samples including printed circuit boards, toothbrush bristles, and plastic bottles. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is one of the members of the family of thermal analysis techniques used to characterize a wide variety of materials - and is commonly used alongside DSC. A high performance TGA instrument available from PerkinElmer, allows for the detection of subtle, but potentially important, differences between polymers. This is important for achieving batch blend consistency in the manufacturing process of a range of plastics.
