Automated High Throughput Method for Analysis of Veterinary Drugs in Chicken by SPME-UHPLC/MS/MS

Introduction

Veterinary drugs are utilized extensively in modern day farming to prevent and treat animal diseases. However, use of these drugs must be carefully monitored, and failure to regulate the presence of residual veterinary drugs in animal tissues could pose a risk to human health if animal tissues with residual veterinary drugs are consumed. Many regulatory bodies, including the US FDA and Health Canada have developed maximum residue levels (MRLs) for residual veterinary drugs as a means to safe-guarding human health.

In this application note, a robust, high-throughput method for the analysis of 73 veterinary drugs in chicken tissue is presented. The method utilizes a fully automated solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) sample preparation technique, with subsequent analysis on a QSight® UHPLC/MS/MS.
