Analyses in Recycling: Mining Our Electronic Waste for Precious Recyclates

Analyses in Recycling

Introduction

The MetroCycleEU (project #: 20IND01) under the umbrella of the EMPIR EURAMET initiative, is developing new methods for recyclables measurement in urban mine waste and other environmental matrices, laying down a robust framework for sustainable decision making in waste management, future pollution control, and environmental protection. Their work will help determine the economic value of recycling products, as well as to decide on recycling routes and to support new R&D for recycling and environmental impact assessment. And it’s all in support the EU’s Circular Economy Action Plan to help to reduce future supply risks and to reinforce Europe´s resilience and autonomy.

We spoke to Thomas Prohaska and Johanna Irrgeher from the Chair of General and Analytical Chemistry, Montanuniversität Leoben, about the project, and here’s what they had to say.
