Introduction

The LAMBDA® 1050+ UV/Vis/NIR Spectrophotometer delivers high-accuracy optical characterization across the UV, visible, and near-infrared regions. Configured with the TAMS module (Total Absolute Measurement System), it enables absolute reflectance and transmittance measurements at variable angles of incidence for precise characterization of optical and glass materials under angular-dependent conditions. TAMS supports multiple detector configurations, including standard direct detectors and integrating sphere detectors, optimizing performance across spectral ranges and enabling measurement of challenging samples. Integrating spheres are particularly important for thicker, curved, or irregular surface samples, where efficiently collecting scattered light is essential for accurate absolute measurements.

Accurate assessment of photometric noise at 100% transmittance is essential for defining instrument performance and setting practical acceptance limits. This technical note presents a statistical evaluation of noise performance at 100% transmittance for the three integrating sphere detector configurations available for the TAMS (see Table 1):

  • Si/InGaAs sphere detector
  • Enhanced Si sphere detector
  • Enhanced Si/InGaAs sphere detector
